Welcome to the war.

The Tesla Institute is a premier academy that trains young time travelers called Rifters. Created by Nicola Tesla, the Institute seeks special individuals who can help preserve the time stream against those who try to alter it.

The Hollows is a rogue band of Rifters who tear through time with little care for the consequences. Armed with their own group of lost teens–their only desire to find Tesla and put an end to his corruption of the time stream.

Torn between them are Lex and Ember, two Rifters with no memories of their life before joining the time war.

When Lex’s girlfriend dies during a mission, the only way he can save her is to retrieve the Dox, a piece of tech which allows Rifters to re-enter their own timeline without collapsing the time stream. But the Dox is hidden deep within the Telsa Institute, which means Lex must go into the enemy camp. It’s there he meets Ember, and the past that was stolen from them both comes flooding back.

Now armed with the truth of who they are, Lex and Ember must work together to save the future before the battle for time destroys them both…again.

This book is astounding. I was so into this book I almost missed the train station of where I’m supposed to get off. Yep. I got it that bad.

Let me emphasize how much I love this novel and break it all down for you.

The Setting

Since this is a time travelling kind of story, there are a lot of places and timelines this novel took me in. With that served on the table, I’m not complaining at all. Being an adventurous wanderlust that I am in the real world, I always love going places. Reading novels like this is not an exception.

At first though, I found the story a little dragging, maybe because I couldn’t keep up with how the story is being told. I felt a little lost there, reading what seemed like foreign terms to me and alternating timelines.

As soon as I finally understood the way the story is going two chapters later, I couldn’t get my hands off my reader. I kept on going back to it, multi-tasking and whenever I have idle times (hence the train rides for commuting).

The Main Characters 

I love how this novel’s focal point is two people from the opposite sides of the story, making the novel a little intriguing. I find the brother-sister relationship between these two admirably cute.

I liked how the character’s love interests depicted here didn’t interfere/outshine with how the story line is intended to be.

My reading adventure in this particular novel made my real life moments dull. It made my stressful days bearable and I wouldn’t mind jumping into their world again for the sequels.

As I  was reading through towards the end of the novel, I couldn’t figure out why I was jumpy and on edge like some sort of a lunatic (I’m exaggerating).

Maybe, it was how epic the twists and how the story is turning towards the end that made me a little confused and frustrated. Or maybe I was a little annoyed that the story is about to end, and I can’t even let go of the characters yet. Not to mention, the subtle hints of something the readers have yet to discover about the mysterious history of the supporting characters.

I wish I could have a copy of the next two books of this series because I am affectionately devoted. *shameless begging here. HAHAHA

To cap off my review, I would be leaving this word for this book. Mind-bending.
